Oneida Community Limited was originally established in the mid 19th century in up-state New York (USA) as a utopian community. Initially, the Oneida Community canned fruits and vegetables and made traps and chains. Over time they built on this knowledge of working metals, and an ethic of quality craftsmanship to begin making silver knives, forks and spoons which they eventually sold outside their community. Oneida International Ltd is proud to retain this work ethic today, despite a more modernised and commercial approach to trading.
